Sarah's Summer of SURGE
Sarah wrote in to share some memories of her favorite soda, including a special summer in 2002:
I have a few Surge-related memories I'd like to share with you. When I was in high school in the fall of 1998, my oceanography class spent a weekend at a marine institute on Catalina Island. Outside snacks and beverages were forbidden, but my bold, Surge-addicted best friend smuggled a 6-pack for our trip in her backpack! She lugged it on a 2-hour boat ride and a hike up mountains to our cabin. After midnight we snuck out and sat on the beach and chugged our entire stash!
The Summer of 2002 was the Summer of Surge for me. In June I went on a campus tour of Concordia University, in Irvine, California. We stopped off for a lunch break at the Eagle Rock, the campus cafeteria. To my shock and extreme delight there was Surge in the soda fountain! I drank at least 3 giant glasses and grabbed a refill for the road.
Sadly, when I matriculated in the Fall Surge had been replaced by yucky Pink Lemonade.
That same summer, in August, I drove with my family to visit relatives in the midwest. Stopping at a gas station in tiny Rawlins, Wyoming did I find ice cold 12-packs of Surge!! I'm not ashamed to admit we bought their entire supply (it was only two 12-packs). Even with rationing, it barely lasted one week. It was to be my last sip of that delicious nectar.

Sounds like an awesome summer, Sarah!
