For the Love of SURGE

Mr. Meat Tangs Matt's SURGE Recipe
Mr. Meat likes Matt's SURGE recipe. Still, he thought that maybe some astronaut drink would add a little more kick!

Since the first time visiting this website (about two years ago), I've always wanted to try the recipes. Last week I was at the store with some extra cash, so I decided the easiest, and most popular recipe; Matt's. So I purchased dNL and Sunny Delight and began experimenting with different ratios.

Don't get me wrong, I found it Matt's recipe very good and very refreshing. However, I wasn't fully satisfied. I wanted to see what else I could make out of this dNL I had bought. So I tried a few different combinations.

Here's a list of what I tried, and what it was like on a scale 1-5. (Five being closest to that Surge taste)

Orange Juice [2]
Sunny Delight [3]
Orange POWERade [2]
Squirt and Sunny Delight [2]
Orange flavored Kool-Aid [1]

At this point, I couldn't think of anything else but to try the same recipe using Mountain Dew. That is, until I remembered I had some Tang in my pantry. Sure enough, this what I was looking for. Tang packs a kick much like Surge and if mixed right, duplicates it very well. If I had to rate it, I'd probably give it a 4.

For those who'd like to try it, just use regular Tang (I'm not sure if there's any others, but if so.. Don't use 'em.) Add a thin tablespoon of Tang to a full glass of dNL (I've tried it with Sprite, and it works too.) and stir. If you did it right, it should begin to fizz and turn a greenish orange color. Be careful, though.. It's very easy to add too much Tang, it will end up tasting very flat and more orangey then surge.

Also, I plan on trying this, as well as some of the above recipes with other citrus sodas similar to Surge. I'll keep you updated.

Mr. Meat

Thanks Mr.!
