For the Love of SURGE

Kate's SURGE Story
Kate shares her story of triumph and tragedy with us:

My parents were always against the idea of sugar in my system...not that I blame them, I was enough trouble without the sugar high...so they never bought me Surge, not even one can, and being the parents they were, my television viewing was limited to the baby stations, even though I was eleven or something like that. Because of this, I filled my summer days at my friend's house, because not only did she have a satelite dish with hundreds of channels, she also had cartons of the nectar that probably soaked into my bloodstream and turned my blood green for a little while. There was construction going on right next to her house, meaning that there were mounds of dirt about a story high. Her older brother would place a can at the top of the mound, and the three of us would race in the hot July Maryland heat to the top, winner takes Surge. I always came in second until one day, I managed to scamper up to the top. There I was, a scraggly little redheaded girl, sweating through my old basketball jersey and school shorts, with dirt caking all of my limbs and smeared across my face. I triumphantly popped the tab on top and took a long, cold swig of the stuff that made me come to love soda. The sound of that tab pop seemed to echo triumphantly through the entire neighborhood as I stood atop the mountain, finally drinking in the soda I worked so hard to earn. AND NOW THEY'VE TAKEN AWAY SURGE AND THEREFORE TAKEN AWAY MY CHILDHOOD DREAMS!!!!! Is there nothing left for a girl to depend on? What's the point of living if all of the good in life is snatched away just when we've earned the right to have it? Is there no justice in this world?

KATE!!!!!
