For the Love of SURGE

Jonquil has Fond Memories of SURGE
Jonquil wrote in to share some memories about SURGE and her happiness to have found our community:

I had my first taste of SURGE when I was 13. Noticing a new soft drink in the stores with an attractive name and logo, I decided to try it out. I was instantly hooked. The color was perfect. It was just that right level of sweetness... not too sweet, not too tart. And the citrus flavor was just AWESOME... I fell in love. I used every chance I got to buy it. My school had a vending machine that contained SURGE... I ended up spending the majority of my lunch money buying SURGE from that machine. I talked my mom into supporting my SURGE habit by buying two liters of the wonderful citrus soda for me to enjoy once I got home. It was rare that someone saw me without a two liter or can of SURGE grasped snugly in my hand. I just couldn't get enough of its taste... so much so that eventually my mom had to ban me from drinking it after 6 pm because I wasn't getting any sleep due to the constant rush of caffeine and sugar I got from chugging it down all the time, lol. At my peak, I was drinking 1-2 two liters of SURGE every day, not including the SURGE I drank at school. I was a teenage girl possessed.

One of the especially great things about the drink was the promotions *oh man, what SURGE fan doesn't remember all the cool promotions that drink had?*. I remember times I went weeks drinking 20 ounces of Surge on just the money I spent on one bottle, just because I was lucky enough to keep on getting "free 20 ounce" bottle caps. I even had picking a 20 ounce bottle of Surge down to an art... I would clear my mind while looking at the row of bottles focusing on nothing but getting a bottle with a free 20 ounce bottle cap on it and then completely randomly pick one up. I never succeeded in getting tons of cool prizes, as after all, my main concern was attaining free bottles of SURGE ;), but I did eventually win a SURGE bucket hat from their scratch and win promotion *you took the label off the SURGE bottle to find three scratch off squares, you scratched off two and if they matched, you won whatever it was they said :)*. To this day I wear that hat with pride and joy. :D

Then it started getting harder and harder to find my favorite soft drink. Eventually I couldn't find it at all. Over the years, I've frequently missed SURGE quite passionately. I thought I was alone in this until I came across the savesurge.org site. Imagine my joy when I discovered I wasn't alone in my love for this soda!

Since then, I have signed the petition, and advocated it to everyone I know. I was especially happy when recently I discovered Vault tasted distinctly similar to Surge. Now I've been campaigning to keep Vault in existence, for I somehow know that if we can't keep Vault going, we're going to lose any hope of bringing the original, SURGE, back into existence.

Please pardon my extreme passion, but this has been the ONLY soda that I have EVER truly loved. All the other soft drinks are simply something to drink, i.e. a filler, to me... SURGE was/is so much more. It's a taste that I simply can't get enough of. It's a complete and total addiction to a flavor that is truly and utterly one of a kind.

And hopefully the rest of the world will eventually realize that a SURGE fan never dies, never gives up, never surrenders, and never loses hope or the energy to try to bring their all time soft drink love back.

Thanks for the memories, Jonquil!
