Criteria Hall of Famers Nominations SaveSURGE.org

Marty Owens

7 Question Interview with Marty Owens
Marty has proven time and again that he is dedicated to SURGE and the SaveSURGE.org community. By taking actions such as spreading the word about SS.org at Twinsfest and a recent trip in which he drove over 500 miles to purchase a ton of Vault, Marty has inspired others to take action as well. Now that's being a leader! And, it's also being a Hall of Famer. We sat down with Marty to chat about his entrance into the Hall:

1. What's the best part about being in the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
Well, I think I would have to say that the best part is that it shows my dedication to the cause. It feels great to be up there with everyone else who has been recognized in the past.

2. What makes SURGE your favorite soda?
The main thing that makes Surge my favorite soda is obviously the delicious citrus taste and rush it gave me, but it was also was a type of childhood rebellion for me. When Surge was widespread I wasn't really old enough to go out and buy it on my own and my parents were of course against me having a lot of caffeine. It felt really good whenever I was able to drink Surge.

3. Do you think Coca-Cola and its bottlers will bring SURGE back?
Now with Vault out there I don't really see Surge itself coming back, I would love to see it happen but I don't really see Coke doing that at this point.

4. Describe how you felt when you realized that SURGE was no longer available in bottles and cans.
When I realized that Surge was gone I really felt bummed out, nothing else compares to it in my mind. Back in 2002 I hadn't been able to find it for months so I did a little internet search and found SaveSurge.org.

5. How did you feel when you found out that SaveSURGE.org was trying to bring it back?
I felt really encouraged about the whole situation because I found out that there were others who shared the same feelings for Surge as me and I was really excited to get involved in the site.

6. Now that Vault has come out, do you feel it symbolizes a victory for our community?
I personally do feel that Vault is a big victory for us, it obviously isn't everything we have wished for but it is a huge accomplishment. I have had my share of Vault through online transactions and my road trip to Michigan and the taste takes me right back to the days of chugging Surge in my middle school cafeteria.

7. Why do you feel that you have been enshrined as a member of the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
I have made some contributions to the site like sightings, photos, stories, reviews, and I have a lot of posts on the board. The things I have done recently are spreading the word at Twinsfest back in February and driving to Michigan for Vault. I don't want to brag because there are a lot of other members who are probably just as deserving as me.
