7 Question Interview with Greg Eide
Along with his best friend and fellow inductee Ralph Daniel, Greg Eide is a longtime friend of SaveSURGE.org. He's been known to take long roadtrips from his home state of Washington just for a chance to taste his favorite soda and to report a SURGE Sighting. He shows his dedication by distributing flyers, collecting SURGE and SURGE-related memorabilia and contacting Coca-Cola on a regular basis. Greg is also an avid poster on the SaveSURGE.org Bulletin Board. We spoke with Greg about his love of SURGE and his induction into the Hall:
1. What's the best part about being in the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
The recognition and respect that I get now for being in here. I thought my self worthy, but knew that Eric would make the decision in the end.
2. What makes SURGE your favorite soda?
Green has, is and always will be my favorite color, and when Surge came out, it was like a dream come true. The taste of a nice cold surge was so refreshing. I never liked Mountain Dew, but I liked Surge because it was different, the citrus taste just so much more unique. It isn't the same with all this expired stuff that me and Ralph have, even though the newest stuff is only two years old.
3. Do you think Coca-Cola and its bottlers will bring SURGE back?
From this point, I really have no idea. One would think so after all of the stuff we have been through and done to try and get them to bring it back. It gets really frustrating, I know, thinking about why they haven't yet.
4. Describe how you felt when you realized that SURGE was no longer available in bottles and cans.
I was crushed! I didn't want to think about it...The Surge just faded away and there was nothing I could do about it. Then just a short time later, Ralph showed me this site so we sent in some pictures of our last reminants of Surge to show everyone. I got the last three twelve packs from a store down in Rouge River Oregon, which was about a 12 hour drive from here. Since then I haven't got any new Surge really.
5. How did you feel when you found out that SaveSURGE.org was trying to bring it back?
I thought it was great how people can get together for a cause like this. I hadn't really been any part of anything like this except for maybe the Democratic party in the 2000 election, when Surge still existed.
6. If Coca-Cola gave you the chance to tell them why SURGE should come back in 25 words or less, what would you say to them?
There is obviously a demand for Surge, as seen on ebay! If you brought it back you could make millions! One, two, three, four, five!
7. Why do you feel that you have been enshrined as a member of the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
My endless devotion and dedication to the SaveSURGE cause of course!
