Criteria Hall of Famers Nominations SaveSURGE.org

Drew Bizzell

7 Question Interview with Drew Bizzell
Drew Bizzell has had a meteoric rise into the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame. Within just one summer, he's created "Save Surge — The Movie" about the search for the soda he loves. He's found himself posting SaveSURGE.org Flyers wherever he can and he's even found time to visit his local bottler. Drew is living proof that sharing positive energy does indeed rub off on others, as he now has the entire SaveSURGE community behind his efforts and he's inspired them to take action on their own. He took time out of his very busy summer to speak with us about his HOF induction:

1. What's the best part about being in the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
Being recognized with other elite members for my undying love for Surge! I'm proud to be apart of such a great group of people who are fighting for what they want.

2. What makes SURGE your favorite soda?
Because I feel like Surge is me in liquid form. Surge came at a time when I was still in grade school, and had no responsiblities whatsoever. Everything I did back in the good old days was all about fun, and so is Surge.

3. Do you think Coca-Cola and its bottlers will bring SURGE back?
No doubt about it. This movement has garnered a lot of supporters since this website debuted back in 2002. All Surge fans, especially the ones who have been around since then, will stop at nothing to get what they want. They've come too far to leave empty-handed.

4. Describe how you felt when you realized that SURGE was no longer available in bottles and cans.
At first I thought it would come back in a month or so with a new logo. When I couldn't find it anywhere I went, I was truly disapointed. My favorite drink for three years was gone. I didn't give up hope, though. Everytime my family went on a trip, I'd look for Surge in the gas stations we stopped at.

5. How did you feel when you found out that SaveSURGE.org was trying to bring it back?
I was thrilled! I was doing some net surfing when I decided to type "Surge" in the search field on Yahoo, just to see what I would find. I scrolled down to find the search results and I found "SaveSURGE"! I thought it was great that someone put so much time and energy into resurrecting a soft drink. As soon as I discovered the site, I was hooked immediately. On any given day, I spend at least 2 of my 24 hours on this site, reading stories, drooling over pictures of Surge or talking it up in the message boards. I'm still thrilled that there's such a thing as "SaveSURGE".

6. What inspired you to take the time to create "Save Surge - The Movie"?
I have never had the desire to make a documentary. If I ever did, I wouldn't have the slightest idea what to make it about. Enter SaveSURGE.org, and I thought to myself, "You know, this would make a great documentary." I didn't think I'd actually start working on it, I just thought it would be one of those spur of the moment ideas that I have but don't do anything with. Then I read some of the stories in "For the Love of Surge", specifically Shepard's story of how he got those people to bring Surge back to his 7-11, and that was the icing on the cake. After reading his story, I knew I was going to do what I could to promote the cause. I make short films all the time for fun, and my friends love them. What better way to promote SaveSURGE than to make a short film about it?

7. Why do you feel that you have been enshrined as a member of the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame?
Because of my enthusiasm for this cause. I've put a lot of time and effort in spreading word of SaveSURGE, and I don't feel it will be in vain. I won't stop fighting untill I can walk into the supermarket and grab a 12-pack of Surge anytime I feel like it. And I'll keep on fighting to ensure there doesn't have to be "SaveSURGEAgain.org".
