Surge has a flavor that is distinctively different
than other citrus sodas. It's got a unique balance of sweetness
and "bite". I have always found it to be very refreshing
and very easy to drink.
As for Surge's advertising, I was never very
impressed with their original commercials. Although, as a hockey
fan, I must say that I did enjoy Surge becoming the official soft
drink of the NHL. I had a much more positive feeling when they
revamped their ad campaign in 1999. I found their new image to
be much more relevant than before. Of course, by this time it
may have been too late to save any hopes of making Surge an upper
echelon soft drink.
Even though the beverage is being discontinued
is several areas, I still believe there is a market for Surge.
In fact, a friend (and fellow Surge fan) Avery Lund and I have
created a website dedicated to saving Surge (http://www.savesurge.org).
We are hoping to get Coca Cola's attention so that they will at
least be aware that many people do miss their favorite Fully Loaded
Citrus Soda.
Avery says "Although Surge has always been
meant as a retaliation to Pepsi's Mountain Dew, it is quite different
in taste and much superior in quality. Coke has done a poor job
marketing Surge and it never got a fair chance. At http://www.savesurge.org,
our job is to change that."
